PRINCIPLES OF ATATURK and HISTORY OF MODERN TURKEY MA PROGRAM
Academic Unit: Department of Principles of Ataturk and History of Modern Turkey
Program Objectives: The primary aim of the program is to help students improve their knowledge on political, social, economic and cultural developments of Turkey. Courses offered within the program are designed to improve students’ critical and analytical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to apply these skills into their research area and carry out an interdisciplinary research with the contributions of different disciplines of Social Sciences. Elective courses offered within the program provide larger possibilities to build bridges between various disciplines. The goal of the program is to train students to evaluate modern Turkey and current issues within the perspective of Modern Turkish History and to carry out scientific research and share the outcomes with others.

Graduation Requirements:
In order to graduate from the program, students are required;
- to take at least 7 courses (21 local credits/ 120 ECTS), two of which are required by the department
- to pass the “Seminar” and “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” courses,
- to pass all courses with at least CB grade and have at least 2.50/4.0 GPA,
- to comply with the publication requirement,
- to register to “Lecture on Specialized Field” and “MA Thesis” courses in order to write a thesis, after completing the required number of credits,
- to pass the MA thesis defense successfully.
Publication Requirement:
MA students are required to meet at least one of the following requirements which has to be related to their thesis and done in cooperation with their thesis supervisor(s):
- An oral/ poster presentation at a national/ international refereed academic congress
- An academic article published or accepted for publication at a national/ international refereed academic journal
